Amongst other things, the Fundamentals Team is responsible for ensuring that our users have a reliable and performant experience with the Teams app - from the moment they launch the app to every click, scroll and action they perform. As a member of this team you will collaborate with developers from across the organization and influence the design/implementation of pretty much every feature that ships. This team offers a unique 360o view of Teams Engineering and the opportunity to influence all of it – you will be at the center of the action! to go to the depths of open-source technologies such as Electron, Chromium, GraphQL, and React; and participate in the open-source community.

As a manager within the Fundamentals Team, you and your team will be responsible for optimizing network infrastructure and client application for Performance and Reliability.


A successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  1. Mentor, manage and lead a team. Drive clarity.
  2. Key attributes are the ability to research and solve problems, develop quick prototypes, communicate across the organization, and drive action with data.
  3. Able to assimilate diverse opinions (from devs, PMs, designers, leadership) and negotiate solutions that work for the customer as well as the organization.
  4. Responsible for planning, execution, and delivering.
  5. Influence and promote a performance mindset across the entire Teams product and organization.
  6. Comfortable with start-up style work environment: versatile, detail oriented, collaborative, can-do attitude with strong commitment.


Basic Qualifications:

  1. 2+ years managing a team.
  2. 5+ years of experience developing and shipping software products.
  3. Master or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Engineering
  4. Have a good understanding of all aspects of the software development process with experience shipping professional grade software.
  5. Be an effective communicator with the ability to collaborate with multiple teams across geographies.
  6. Have a passion for customers and product quality.
  7. Prior experience in performance is a plus.
  8. Prior experience with service infrastructure (routing/CDN/DNS/KeyVault/Certs) is a plus.
  9. Experience with React or similar modern UI libraries is desired.
