Microsoft’s Quantum research group is exploring ways to build a full-stack quantum computer and has become the world’s center of expertise on topological quantum computing. The research effort includes a staff of theoretical and experimental teams around the world, who have been designing and optimizing all aspects of the quantum computer, from topological qubit designs, to cryogenic control and readout circuitry, to runtime software and quantum language compilers. Supporting this research and development effort requires motivated individuals to contribute new breakthroughs, ideas, and results in a fast-paced team environment.


You will be part of a team of theoretical and experimental condensed-matter physicists seeking to develop and optimize topological qubits.Working with Microsoft’squantumdevice simulation software stack, your main responsibility will beperformingand analyzingdevice simulationsandcontributing to the design and improvement of qubits.In addition,you will contribute to the continuous improvement of our simulation tools.Working with experimentalists, you will provide guidance for qubit measurement and interpretation. You willwork closely with other theorists and must be able to handle multiple projects and dynamic situations.



  • Master's in condensed matter theoretical physics or closely related field - (prefer PhD)
  • Experience withhigh-performance or high-throughput computing
  • Proficiency in Python, or a similar language
  • Ability to succeed in fast-paced, collaborativeteam
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able and willing to travelinternationally


  • Strong semiconductor physics background
  • Strong research background in superconductivity
  • Experience with transport calculations and simulations (e.g.,kwant)
