With the growing complexities of approvals and licensing requirements, we are on the search for an Environmental Approvals expert that will contribute to securing regional environmental works approvals and licencing that will support the maintenance of current and future operations. Reporting into the Environmental Approvals Manager and working alongside Alcoa’s major projects approvals team, you will support in developing and co-ordinating activities required to secure optimal approval and licencing outcomes for our operations. As the Senior Consultant – Environmental Approvals, your key areas of focus will be:

  • Supporting with the maintenance of the state agreement, relevant scopes of work, schedules and reporting of progress and key issues.

  • Coordinating technical studies and preparing environmental impact assessments and statutory referrals to government agencies to support future and current approvals needs.

  • Participating in State and Commonwealth government and regulatory meetings as needed to support discussions and outcomes and supporting with Federal and State based environmental compliance matters as required.

  • Working within multi-disciplinary project teams, providing advice on environmental management and compliance issues for operational approvals and licensing projects.

  • Identifying headwinds and risks associated with approval processes necessary to manage through all phases of operational expansion projects in accordance with risk management standards and procedures.

  • Provide leadership on the selection, qualification, and development of scopes of work for environmental contractors and manage scope delivery and performance.

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related fields of study with substantial experience in managing licences and works approvals processes within a similar industry.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Local, State and Commonwealth legislation relating to environmental assessment and approvals, with specific experience in Part V approvals.

  • Strong knowledge and experience in the preparation of environmental assessments relating to the delivery of brownfields expansion and improvement projects.

  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills with the ability to engage effectively and build positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including peers, customers, and government agencies.

  • Excellent problem solving along with a collaborative and creative approach to bringing new ideas to life.
