This role is available in either Sydney OR Melbourne, at the candidate’s preference.

We are looking for an experienced security leader to join the AWS Cloud Response team. As a security leader, you will own building and managing a team of security engineers and leaders, fostering a strong team culture. You and your team will be expected to think like both an attacker and defender, and drive engineering teams to take the right actions in the right time frames to mitigate risks.

We're looking for a leader that's highly passionate about the potential of cloud computing and building a high performing security team. Ideally you have a track record of delivering high quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. You should know how to prioritize, communicate clearly and compellingly, and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong team. AWS in general, and Cloud Incident Management in particular, operates at very large scale and demands high standards, so a passion and discipline around security and delivery is critical. A high level of ownership and accountability is a must.

Key job responsibilities
  • Motivate and manage a team of security engineers assigned to incident management.
  • Provide constant guidance to engineers on the critical phases of incident management.
  • Drive positive change from business metrics.
  • Ensure adherence to all SLAs

About the team
Cloud Security Response is a team inside AWS Security Operations. This team is broadly responsible for the AWS side of the Shared Responsibility Model, and provides oversight of security issues from their identification through to resolution.

Cloud Security Response operates with a follow-the-sun model, with teams based in four different geographical locations.

We work with other AWS teams, to ensure security issues are resolved with the right level of urgency, whilst ensuring that our stakeholders are kept into the loop.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years or more of proven experience with a focus in areas such as systems, network, and/or application security.
  • 5+ years of experience leading, managing & developing high performance teams (up to 8 people on your team).
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or 3+ years’ equivalent technology experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years experience with high volume workflow process and procedures.
  • 5+ years knowledge of technical incident management or incident response methods and tools.
  • Experience within a complex, global security team or security consulting capacity.
  • Experience managing remote team members.
  • Strong information security risk-based prioritisation abilities.
  • Hands-on knowledge of information security technologies such as security design review, threat modeling, risk analysis, and software testing techniques.
  • Information security professional certifications encouraged (SANS GIAC, etc.).
  • A strong bias for action with proven ability to handle high stress, time sensitive security tasks.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a focus on translating technically complex issues into simple, easy to understand concepts.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
