Global Merchant Services (GMS) Third Party Alliances (TPA) Partner Manager

The GMS TPA team is responsible for merchant acquiring alliances, aggregators and bank partnerships to enable and transform American Express card acceptance across merchant networks in Australia.

The Partner Manager is responsible for a portfolio of alliance partners to drive acquisition and activation of new merchants. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic roadmaps and integrated acquiring models with key partners based in Australia and New Zealand, as well as other third party merchant acquirers to deliver on merchant acceptance goals and metrics.

The key deliverables are to increase the number of small merchants accepting American Express card transactions (New and Active locations-in-force (NLIF and ALIF)), achieve Amex billings targets through these merchants (BCV) and ensure the profitability of programs. This is achieved through developing and nurturing relationships with partners, aligning on mutual goals and deliverables, and working proactively with their merchant acquiring sales channels to deliver our value proposition, achieve coverage goals and drive cross sell of American Express card acceptance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the coverage strategy for partners in your portfolio that drives scalable growth in the number of merchants actively accepting American Express and subsequent transaction volume across Australia.

  • Business development through expansion of the Amex merchant cross-sell across new products and channels.

  • Contract negotiation, including the management of all commercial and financial matters, leveraging key stakeholder teams on the design and execution of deals to drive growth across the portfolio.

  • Developing key relationships with internal stakeholders to drive change/initiatives.

  • Management of the alliance contact strategy to drive engagement from partners.

  • Implementation of tactical marketing/promotional campaigns to drive merchant acceptance.

  • Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of partners’ acquisition processes to ensure they meet compliance standards.

  • Training on the American Express Merchant Services value proposition and compliance requirements.

  • Resolution of operational challenges and proactive engagement with relevant teams.

  • Ensure compliance to Acquisition Policies and manage Pricing, Legal and Finance requirements relating to contractual and budgetary matters.

Skills and experience required:

  • Proven track record of managing strategic partnerships across multiple stakeholder levels. Within the payments, fintech or banking industry is a plus.

  • Experience in negotiating and securing new business and contract management.

  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the Merchant Acquiring landscape, including the understanding of competitive products, emerging technology, value propositions and the drivers of profitability.

  • Proven track record of overseeing project implementations.

  • Highly numerate with ability to work proactively with Finance and Pricing teams.

  • Experience in enabling efficient end to end process management.

  • Strong communication skills and collaborative approach to driving results in a matrix environment.

  • Excellent strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to influence multiple stakeholders across the organization (internal and external).

  • High degree of resilience and personal accountability.
