The Opportunity

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Head of Service Performance and Governance to join our Information Technology team on a Permanent Full Time basis.

The Head of Service, Performance and Governance is accountable for leading a function that jointly crafts high value objectives then communicates, measures and steers improved performance across the APA IT function. Reporting to the CIO, you will be responsible for the operational and strategic management of broad IT Services comprising the HR, administrative office, finance, planning, risk, governance & assurance, marketing, communications and supplier management functions.

The role leads a newly created function and APA is looking for a leader to set vision and velocity to develop the concepts, capability and team in pursuit of a high-performance culture.

The location for this role is flexible and hybrid; we will consider locations all over Australia and/or home office. We will also consider job share arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading a team of up to 10
  • ICT Portfolio and Delivery Governance
    • Facilitating investment planning in line with the delivery teams, enterprise architecture and technology strategy comparing different categories of investments and the resources and funding constraints.
    • Evaluating, prioritising and balancing programs and services, managing demand within resource and funding envelopes, comparing alignment with strategy, benefits and risk
    • Monitoring and reporting the performance of the technology portfolio, adjusting in response to program, project, product or service performance and reflecting changing business priorities
    • Capturing, planning and monitoring the realisation of benefits from projects and programmes
    • Driving improvements in IT delivery as APA looks to transition from a capital run projects focussed organisation into an increasingly modern product and platforms driven organisation
  • IT Performance Management
    • Establishing and operating technology performance reporting and KPIs for the technology organisation
    • Assessing, measuring and guiding uplift in IT maturity indexes
    • Developing meaningful metrics for continuous improvement
    • Improving performance in Business Analysis and Agile delivery methods
    • Facilitating the co-creation and sharing best practice artefacts and processes through community practice
    • Analysing, implementing and operating the required governance for technology in APA Establishing and maintaining governance bodies aligned to the technology strategy and APA’s mission, goals and objectives
    • Being responsible for co-ordinating financial planning, budgeting, costing, recharging and benefits management
    • Analysing IT expenditure, examining variances, taking corrective action where required
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Partnering cohesively and effectively across the IT teams and with key stakeholders to drive strategic business programs (portfolio level planning, scaling and reporting)
    • Collaborating across teams to develop supporting prioritisation and manage complex dependencies
  • Talent Development
    • Guiding, tracking and advising development of skills and capabilities across IT
    • Partnering with IT leadership to facilitate the development of individuals and plays an active role in recruitment, reward and performance management

Your background

  • Extensive experience in a senior technology leadership role
  • Experience in transitioning from a traditional Service Management function into a SIAM based model
  • Extensive experience in delivering executive reports and dashboards with online tools such as Power BI to track and advise performance and KPIs
  • Deep experience in engaging, collaborating with and influencing senior customer stakeholders, providing technology thought leadership, mobilising initiatives and delivering impactful outcomes
  • Strong affinity for modern data and digital technologies and demonstrable experience in leading transformative business outcomes that leverage such capabilities
  • Proven experience in managing a multi million dollar IT portfolio
  • Highly experienced in managing IT performance in accordance with strategic objectives and influencing alignment to agreed outcomes
  • Familiar with necessary IT and industry frameworks and standards
  • Managing Risk and assurance services in large complex organisations
  • Demonstrated experience in guiding and developing people in accordance with strategic plans
  • Fostering a continuous-learning and continuous-improvement culture and embedding mechanisms and ways of working to achieve these outcomes
  • Familiarity with energy, utilities or asset-heavy industries will be highly advantageous but not essential
