The Opportunity

We now have exciting opportunities available for Power Station Operator Maintainer Technicians to join our Operations & Maintenance team at the Gruyere Power Station (GPS) WA on a FIFO 15on/13off roster, point of hire Perth Airport on a 12month fixed term contract.

Reporting to the Regional Manager WA FIFO, you will play a key role to control and monitor the daily operation of the gas fired power station for reliable supply of electric power to the Gruyere Gold mine, ensuring the plant operates safely and in compliance with HSE requirements to provide the targeted commercial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operation of the Gruyere Power Station (GPS) in WA. Manage the safety of the people and equipment in line with the APA and Site Safety policies and procedures.
  • To deliver electric power as per the daily load schedule from the customer so that requested demand is met without unscheduled interruptions to supply.
  • To be a key part of the operations team, maintaining strong relationships with internal/external stakeholders and work as a cohesive unit with a strong focus on HSE, customer needs and reliable power delivery.
  • To support the timely completion of routine and minor maintenance on the generation plant and the Balance of Plant items utilising other employees and/or contracted services.
  • Liaise with the Mine Control Centre to provide operational supervision and control of the plant.

Your background

  • Demonstrated experience working at a trade level in a gas fired power plant is required, ideally coupled with solar farm and BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) knowledge (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of reciprocating gas and diesel engines is required.
  • Previous experience with Jenbacher gas engines is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of high voltage electrical generation plant is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of distributed control systems and plant automation is highly desirable.
  • Ability to competently use relevant computer applications to analyse data and records.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to engage with a variety of trades.
  • Proven ability to work FIFO rostered shift work in remote locations.
  • Hold a valid WA drivers licence – minimum of C class (unrestricted).

About the Team

The APA operational team in the Midwest services onshore energy assets. The team comprises of a mix of residential and FIFO technicians who work across a geographically wide area from Cataby in the south to Geraldton in the North and Mount Magnet in the East. The team is currently expanding with the construction of a brand new gas compressor station and 580km pipeline underway that will come online early 2023. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Australia’s energy transition and play a key role in supporting WA’s critical energy infrastructure.
