About the role: As our Senior Payroll Governance Advisor, you will provide expert advice to ensure systems, processes and people comply with relevant governance frameworks, legislation and the business policies, principles and standards. In particular, ensuring that we are fully compliant with employee pay conditions in a complex industrial environment across several payroll systems.

  • Support Aurizon’s Enterprise Bargaining process by providing Payroll insights to Aurizon’s bargaining representatives and ensuring the correct interpretation of the Enterprise Agreement is built in the payroll system.
  • Support Aurizon’s growth strategy by imbedding new business into existing payroll processes, and ensuring governance and controls are complete and to Aurizon’s high standards.
  • Partner with the Payroll leaders to support EA rollouts & onboarding new businesses.
  • Identify risk and ensure appropriate controls are in place to meet audit requirements.
  • Ensure that legislative changes are fully understood and implemented.
  • Develop processes to identify capability and processing gaps, and how they can be addressed
  • Support the end-to-end review and continuous improvement of payroll processes and contribute to team training when required.
  • Support & drive customer satisfaction by resolving complex payroll escalations and putting processes in place to avoid future occurrences.
  • Investigate non-compliant Payroll activities and make recommendations for changes to business processes and/or systems to mitigate compliance risks.
  • Review, monitor and report on the adherence to internal payroll guidelines / processing requirements, enterprise standards and legislation.

About you: You are comfortable working with employee pay conditions, potentially with a background in IR looking for practical experience with large and complex enterprise agreements, or with a strong payroll background working with complex terms and conditions. You are data driven with strong attention to detail. You are task focused and are comfortable working at a moderate pace, and eager to influence stakeholders in best practise.

  • 5+ years’ experience in working across HR and Payroll
  • Experience in reading and interpreting Awards/Enterprise Agreements
  • Experience working in ER/IR, audit or risk and controls highly regarded
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with the ability to identify risks, possible solutions, and corrective actions.
  • Extensive understanding of government legislation and its application to superannuation, tax and other payroll related areas.
  • Ability to reach agreements and consensus despite differing goals and priorities.
  • Results orientated with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • High level of skill in the preparation, analysis and presentation of reports.
  • High level of skill in providing high quality professional advice to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
