About the Role

We are currently seeking a Manager Operations Systems to join our Minerals Australia Engineering Team within the sub-function of Technology.

This role provides leadership for a team focussed on the production, development and management of mining execution systems in line with business requirements. This role also translates strategy into operational plans for our remote operations teams and assets.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering for Technology Minerals Australia your key accountabilities will include leading a team that:

  • Understands our customer and how to meet their needs.
  • Develops Technology strategy, roadmaps and architectural models in alignment with the current and future needs of the business.
  • Verifies whether systems conform to technical requirements, validates stakeholder expectations, and transitions systems to production and operation.
  • Monitors system performance and configuration management, resolves issues and implements required updates to improve the overall performance, integrity and integration of BHP systems across the lifecycle.
  • Develops a system integration strategy, plans, and integrates systems accordingly.
  • Develops and selects effective design solutions, works with relevant vendors/stakeholders to procure products, and provides design expertise to inform selection.
  • Defines and manages functional and non-functional requirements that consider business expectations for the system and operational concepts.
  • Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Gains support for and negotiates outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals.
  • Engages the capabilities of the entire organisation.
  • Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste

About You

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in a DevOps or Manufacturing Execution Systems role. A mining and resources background is NOT mandatory, and we welcome diverse industry backgrounds into this role.

Your detailed analytical skills including solid governance, business and financial acumen will ensure success in this role. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must, allowing you to build relationships across operations and functions and across all organisational levels.

To be successful you will demonstrate the following:

  • Quantified experience in enabling sustainable change outcomes for Technology in an operating business.
  • Ability to deal with complexity and distil key issues with excellent analytical skills.
  • Be a thought leader with the ability to connect the dots and work with ambiguity.
  • Be able to connect strategy to action, and lead a team accordingly.
  • Experience coaching improvement professionals in adopting high velocity approaches to deliver value across the supply chain.
  • Experience working within a global, or remote team.
  • Familiarity across standard computer software practices including development and vendor (COT’s) assessment methodologies is essential.
  • Experience in transforming the defined set of business requirements into a set of system and sub-system requirements specifications.
  • Experience in creating a product through buying, making, or reusing so as to satisfy the design requirements.
  • Understanding of optimisation and constraints theory.
  • Knowledge of Engineering principles and Test and Evaluation methodology.
  • Experience supporting and guiding technical teams.
  • Be a great communicator at all levels of external and internal stakeholders across operations and functions.
  • Demonstrated solution stewardship on technically complex projects would be considered highly beneficial.


In this full-time permanent position, there is flexibility for you to be based at any of our corporate offices in Perth, Brisbane or Adelaide with some travel required to support the remote teams.

You will be work a Monday-Friday roster with some opportunity for a Flexi work arrangement.
