About the Role

BHP is in search of a Lead Geotechnical Engineer, who can play an integral role in our mine design and planning processes. Residential, FIFO and flexible work arrangements are available.

You will report to the Superintendent Geotechnical Operations. You will offer geotechnical engineering design recommendations which enables safe execution of mine plans.

The key tasks for the role include:

  • Competent Engineer for approval of development, infrastructure, rehabilitation and stope layouts and ground support designs
  • Adhere to and ensure accountabilities as described in the Olympic Dam Ground Control Management Plans
  • Contribute to development of a geotechnical design criteria based on empirical rock mass properties for each geotechnical domain within the lease area.
  • Numerical modelling of regional stope extraction sequences to optimise performance and operational integrity.
  • Provide geotechnical recommendations for stope and block sequences
  • Implement monitoring strategies and new technologies for assigned mine areas
  • Establish and maintain mine wide risk assessment and damage maps for assigned mine areas to manage any changes from design assumptions
  • Verify long term Geotechnical strategy matches learnings from the shorter term through the Plan-Do-Check-Act-Cycle
