About the Role

As the Mechanical Engineer you will provide a high level of technical support for the relevant stakeholders for a diverse range of areas including, fixed plant, freight cars (iron ore, fuel, ballast, etc.), track maintenance machines and locomotives.

Reporting to the Lead Mechanical/Rollingstock Engineer – Rail Engineering, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring all blueprint changes are managed through the Management of Change Process, documented and collated in SPO.
  • Leading and partaking in technical audits to ensure the railway mechanical and rolling stock assets are maintained as per Rolling stock asset Standards.
  • Participating in ongoing development and trials of new components to improve reliability or reduce costs safely.
  • Ensuring engineering solutions are identified to address reliability issues, reduce system faults, and are commissioned without unplanned safety and business impacts.
  • Support and adhere to the 1SAP and Rail Engineering Work Management Process.
  • Ensuring project designs meet engineering design standards and are the right solution for the business.
  • Ensure compliance to governance documents are controlled and managed to reduce safety and business risks.
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Actively recommending and implementing improvement, risk reduction and cost saving initiatives.

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Experience in engineering design and technical report writing;
  • Good understanding and knowledge of engineering standards, regulations and procedures;
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • Experience in managing engineering consultants to deliver positive results in safety, quality assurance/control, culture and productivity.
