About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Legal – Marketing & Maritime, this is an exciting leadership role and key Legal partner for BHP’s Sales & Marketing business units responsible for sales of coal, iron ore and metals globally.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing a team of 3 high-performing lawyers.
  • Providing strategic legal support to BHP’s Sales & Marketing business in respect all coal, copper, nickel, uranium and iron ore products, including sales, purchases, disputes, joint venture issues and supply chain issues.
  • Proactively monitoring, assessing, and managing legal risks and issues.
  • Effectively building and maintaining deep and trusted partnerships, and driving collaboration with key internal client groups and stakeholders.
  • Promoting positive team culture, respectful and inclusive workplace behaviors, continuous improvement, and other Legal priorities.

About You

A true strategic leader with experience in the resources and energy sector, you will bring to this role a range of capabilities including strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to lead, coach and mentor a team, and deliver strategic, pragmatic advice. You will have strong commercial acumen and be an excellent communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, and be able to resolve complex problems.
To be considered for this role, a law degree (LLB or JD), at least 7 years post-qualification experience in a well-regarded law firm or multinational corporation and the right to practice in a major common law jurisdiction (such as Australia, Singapore, England and Wales or the US) is required. You will also need a deep understanding of legal landscape and issues relevant to the global trade of commodities.
