About the Role

The Hydrogeology hub is currently seeking a Specialist Hydrogeologist to join their team on initially a 12-month Fixed Term contract with the possibility of extension or permanency. The role is based in Brisbane but once a month travel to site within the Bowen Basin region will be required.

The team aims to deliver integrated risk-based water planning to maximise business and social value. Specifically, this includes providing subject matter advice on groundwater compliance, data management, remediation plans, approvals, other capital projects which affect groundwater and design of groundwater monitoring networks including installation of groundwater monitoring assets and development of appropriate groundwater monitoring programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide subject matter expert input to studies and projects carried out at BMA operations and associated infrastructure.
  • Develop detailed hydrogeological conceptual models and use as the basis for groundwater risk assessment.
  • Design and install effective groundwater monitoring networks with a focus on protecting the natural environment.
  • Set and measure groundwater drilling compliance-to-plan metrics and develop improvement strategies where required to achieve drilling targets.
  • Improve the way groundwater related data is collected, stored and analysed to improve evaluation of groundwater risks, inform projects and inform plans for mine closure.

Key requirements include:

  • Extensive experience in hydrogeology or related field
  • Tertiary qualification in Geology, Science or Engineering (specialisation in Hydrogeology highly desirable)
  • Exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to influence without authority across multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical and leadership audiences.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks related to groundwater management.
  • Ability to quickly grasp technical problems, business requirements and design appropriate work programs
  • Experience in the mining industry and/or in Queensland/familiarity with the Qld Water Act and Environmental Protection Act is highly regarded
