Nickel West Kalgoorlie

Nickel West Kalgoorlie has the capacity to produce up to 110,000 tonnes per annum of nickel matte. Nickel West Kalgoorlie incorporates a flash furnace smelter, converters and an acid plant. About the Role

At the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter, the Technical Superintendent role is to lead a team of engineers in providing technical support for Flash Furnace, Converters and Ancillary Services operations (Sulphuric Acid Plant, Cryogenic Oxygen Plant, Waste Heat Boiler and Powerhouse). Working closely with the Production Teams and Production Superintendents they are responsible for day-to-day troubleshooting, critical process variable monitoring as well as projects designed at improving cost, throughput and process safety.

Reporting to the Manager Production, you will:

  • Lead a team of 10 engineers, from senior engineers to graduate level.
  • Provide technical support to the Production Team
  • Engage in process/maintenance troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Execute cost improvement projects as per the site business plan.
  • Complete recovery and throughput improvement projects
  • Monitor critical process safety variables and participate in process safety improvement.
  • Partake in furnace and refractory monitoring to assist in the extension of asset life.
  • Provide run-down and commissioning technical support for shutdowns.
  • Complete process investigations and develop clear and precise actions.

About You

The following attributes will be highly regarded:

  • Engineering degree or Metallurgy qualification
  • Strong people leadership skills with experience in coaching and developing people from different backgrounds and experience levels
  • Demonstrated sound analytical and problem solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong commitment to safety both occupational and process
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate and interact with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to work within a flexible and dynamic team environment
  • Experience in managing improvement projects
