We currently have a fantastic opportunity to join our Operations Improvement team, within our Operations Division on a full-time, permanent basis as Principal – Renewable Energy

This role will lead the development, implementation and management of renewable energy/Microgrid projects across the business in line with the strategic plan.

Reporting to the Manager – Operations Improvement and working closely with operational personnel in head office and regional areas, the key deliverables for the role are: 

  • Ownership of carbon emission reduction strategy to achieve a 50% reduction by 2030;

  • Identify and assess the technical viability of renewable projects and provide clear recommendations (underpinned by sound business cases) focused on long term value creation;

  • Manage the implementation of renewable energy assets and ensure projects are meeting business objectives;

  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders (including customers, government agencies, and infrastructure providers) to help remove any barriers to meeting business objectives;

  • Shape negotiations and provide direction with regards to the development, implementation, and management of contracts to ensure alignment with strategic business objectives;

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of technological, environmental, and social changes effecting the commercial development of renewable projects and operations, particularly in Australia;

  • Assess the commercial viability of new renewable energy options and potential combinations of battery storage and backup generation;

  • Optimise the microgrid installed and operating parameters to deliver maximum financial returns on these generation assets;

  • Provide timely and informative financial reporting on microgrid projects during study and execution phase; and

  • Establish operational tools to measure operational performance for management, NGERS and sustainability reporting and for benchmarking against the contract performance specifications.

Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter, along with:

  • Degree qualification (Commerce, Science, Engineering);

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience working through the development, contracting, procurement, construction, and operational phase of renewable energy assets;

  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of the electricity market, renewable energy generation and commercial landscape;

  • Demonstrated experience developing a new business with P&L responsibility;

  • Experience in BOOM (Build, Own, Operate, Maintain) and BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer) project delivery methods;

  • Ability to take ownership, use initiative, improvise, and deliver solutions in the face of conflicting project requirements and project timelines;

  • Solid financial acumen and the ability to comfortably describe financial results; and

  • Strong analytical skills to manipulate large amounts of commercial, technical and economic data
