About the team

The Merchandise team at Coles plays a critical role and pride themselves on building sustainable long term supplier relationships, developing new range offers and ideas, and working on convenient, healthy solutions.

About the role

In this permanent role as our next Category Manager Cosmetics and Skincare, you will have full accountability of the P&L of a portfolio of products across the range in the Health, Beauty & Baby portfolio business and will develop a winning category strategy to implement across our stores.

You will need the ability to build strong internal and external relationships and be able to optimise your operation to drive improved sales and profit outcomes. This role will require you to work end-to-end; set a high-level strategy and engage with our store network to drive excellent execution of your plan.  

Reporting to the role is a Business Category Co-ordinator and an Assistant Category Manager (ACM), who will support you in the day-to-day management of the role as you focus on landing your longer-term strategy.

Utilising your strategic skills, you will identify growth opportunities within your category and partner with suppliers and internal stakeholders to deliver a point of difference for our customer base and increase our share within the market.

You'll also:

  • Drive results and performance of your categories
  • Work cross-functionally across Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, Transformation and Strategy
  • Execute our customer-centric strategy for your categories
  • Drive innovation within the category, working closely with the broader Coles Merchandise team
  • Build strong relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, using your negotiation and influencing skills to drive the direction of the category

About you and your skills

In this role you will be able to utilise your proven experience in supplier negotiations to understand market share gaps and help to develop and implement a market leading plan across this portfolio. Well-developed stakeholder management skills will be key to the success of this role.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated Category Management and/or Merchandise experience within a retail environment
  • Outstanding influencing, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to operate in a dynamic, customer-driven retail environment
  • Proven ability to champion and drive change through engaging with senior leadership
  • Strong financial acumen within a highly commercial environment
  • Customer first approach
