The Insights Team within the broader Coles Technology Team focuses on building data collection and analytics capabilities to uncover customer, product, and operational insights. Providing data driven support to our users and enabling Coles to be a data driven organisation.

About the role

As a Data Engineer, you will bring extensive expertise on data handling and curation capabilities to the team.

You’ll be responsible for building intelligent domains using market leading tools, ultimately improving the way we work in Data, and delivery of key data initiatives, building them using market leading cloud technologies including Azure DevOps, Azure Data Factory, and Databricks.

About you and your skills

  • Solid experience, knowledge and skills in Data Engineering, BI/software development such as ELT/ETL, data extraction and manipulation in Data Lake/Data Warehouse environment
  • Proven experience in data modelling, analysis, and profiling
  • Experience of working in diverse data domains
  • Continuous improvement and performance optimisation practice ensuring high levels of performance, availability and integrity
  • Experience in working within an Agile environment
  • Experience in applying DevOps practices, SDLC, CI/CD principles to build automated pipelines and deployment
  • In-depth understanding of data engineering practices and big data technologies
  • Hands on in SQL and its Big Data variants (Hive-QL, Snowflake ANSI, Redshift SQL)
  • Python and Spark and one or more of its API (PySpark, Spark SQL, Scala), Bash/Shell scripting
  • Experience with Source code control – GitHub etc
  • Knowledge and exposure to cloud Big Data warehouses - RedShift, Snowflake, Databricks etc
  • Experience with UNIX command-line tools
