Job Description

CSL is hiring an Associate Director, Analytical Biochemistry to join our Research team based at Bio21 Institute.

As a group leader of highly qualified and experienced Scientists, you will play a critical laboratory-based role in analysing therapeutic products, focusing on the detailed characterisation of protein interactions, binding kinetics, and their mechanisms of action.

You will report to the Senior Director of Analytical Biochemistry and will maintain current knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies in protein interaction analysis, ensuring that your group provides high-quality data in a timely manner.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead operations of Biosensor-based technology platforms directed towards discovering, developing and manufacturing new products and improving existing assets.
  • Direct, develop and train staff in biosensor-based research and development technology platforms, including, for example, research discovery platforms, analytics, quality, and equipment validations.
  • Ensure close day-to-day collaboration with the team lead in Analytical Biochemistry to support lead candidate development and selection of novel therapeutic molecules, elucidate their mechanism of action to support molecular characterisation activities through all development phases.
  • Maintain current awareness of key scientific/technical strategies and innovative technological developments in protein interaction analysis
  • Lead and oversee experimental work in areas of direct responsibility as assigned by the Snr Director of Analytical Biochemistry or as agreed with PSPT/other team members.
  • Lead and disseminate complex laboratory results to internal and external collaborators and stakeholders as required to facilitate decision-making and efficient advancement of CSL R&D projects.

To be successful: We’re looking for a self-motivated applicant who demonstrates the following qualifications and skills:

  • Postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, and/or extensive experience in the relevant industry or academic environment
  • 10+ years of industry experience and/or equivalent experience in a relevant academic environment in protein interaction/ biosensor technology.
  • Proven track record in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor-based method development, analysis, validation and technology transfer.
  • Experience in working in cross-functional, multicultural and international teams.
