Our team is growing. We have multiple opportunities for enthusiastic and dynamic commercial lawyers at both junior and senior levels to join the Office of the General Counsel and support high-value clients across the firm’s practice areas.

About the team

The Office of General Counsel is an innovative, high-performing and trusted advisor located across Australia who collaborates closely with our internal clients. We support all business units within Deloitte Australia and Deloitte Asia Pacific and value intellectual curiosity, commerciality, empathy and an ability to develop creative and pragmatic solutions to complex legal problems.
If you’re looking for a team that is dynamic, collaborative and will constantly challenge your legal thinking – the Deloitte Office of the General Counsel is the place for you.

What will your typical day look like?

Life at Deloitte is high-tempo and impactful – there is no typical day! You may start the day drafting a services agreement, advise stakeholders on contractual issues in a cross jurisdictional tax advisory engagement and end the day negotiating a multi-year system implementation.

You will work autonomously across a wide portfolio of market-leading deals – including the delivery of technology products and services, system implementation and integration, management consulting, tax, financial and risk advisory and managed services deals across a broad range of industries. You may have responsibility for a distinct part of the portfolio or operate broadly across our practice. Your role will have a dual focus involving developing and managing our internal client stakeholder relationships as a trusted advisor and leading the review and negotiation of contracts for engagements while providing strategic advice to the business.

We are committed to always learning. You will contribute to precedent management and development and may assist in various exciting projects on which the team is working.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you.

You will be an intellectually curious and driven lawyer with minimum 2 years’ + PQE in commercial or technology law, gained within a major law firm, a leading organisation or professional services firm. You are someone who values variety and challenge and who is willing to go the extra mile to deliver exceptional service.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating services agreements, statements of work, subcontracts, and responding to tenders and familiarity with MSA and panel arrangements;
  • A strong foundation of core legal concepts relating to commercial and technology law;
  • A keen interest in taking ownership of matters and developing a portfolio of legal services within the Office of the General Counsel;
  • Robust end-to-end contracting skills in commercial law;
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills with a high level of strategic thinking to craft elegant solutions to complex problems;
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to handle a high volume of matters, across all areas of the firm;
  • Strong empathy and an ability to build relationships at all levels of the business, to support problem solving and informed decision making;
  • Flexibility and who enjoys a dynamic, hybrid corporate culture;
  • Ability to manage their time in a fast-paced environment whilst managing several matters concurrently;
  • Excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills with a high attention to detail;
  • A positive, energetic and collaborative mindset, who is a self-starter and can operate autonomously within a highly agile and geographically dispersed team.
