Design Engineer Technician

This is your chance to work on an iconic part of Wellington's harbour waterfront. More people than ever are cycling in and around Wellington, and Te Ara Tupua Alliance is working with our mana whenua partners, protecting the coastal environment, and creating a great walking and cycling option for people in our region. More people walking and cycling will improve public health, help reduce emissions and ease the pressure on other modes of transport.

Te Ara Tupua Alliance consists of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, HEB Construction, Downer NZ and Tonkin + Taylor – working closely with iwi mana whenua. We are now looking to appoint a Design Engineer Technician to play a key part in the alliance as we move towards construction commencement.

About the role

As the Design Engineer Technician, you will be primarily responsible for taking on-site measurements/inspections, preparing drawings and models for the project and interpreting drawings, CAD\BIM models and survey data to check the accuracy of design or construction geometry.

In this role you will be working closely with a wide range of internal and external projects teams, so being able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken communication will be a key part of this role. Along with this you will also need to interpret drawings, CAD/BIM models and survey data, attend resourcing meetings, participate in engineering reviews and provide support and training to consultant, subcontractor and client teams as required.

About you:

  • Proven experience in a similar industry
  • Experience in the use of CAD or BIM tools
  • Proven practical experience in producing drawings
  • Have a BE qualification or Diploma in Civil Engineering an advantage
  • The ability to plan work which includes interfaces with several different parties and work collaboratively
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate with a wide range of ethnicities
  • Have the ability to complete projects within a deadline
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Able to think for themselves and have strong problem-solving skills
