Road Science is New Zealand’s leading designer and supplier of bitumen and bitumen based products. We have world-class manufacturing plants and storage facilities for bitumen, emulsions and polymer modified binders. Road Science has four IANZ-accredited civil engineering laboratories and project specific mobile laboratories on and off-shore. We also provide expertise in pavement design, technical and consultancy services to our clients.

About the role
Based at our Palmerston North Turitea Wind Farm project mobile laboratory and reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will provide a testing and technical support service to our Turitea Wind Farm project in Palmerston North and in the Lower North Island. Our laboratory is responsible for ensuring all products - such as soils, aggregates and related construction materials are tested, including onsite testing, to the appropriate quality, standards and project specifications.

This role is hands-on with lots of moving around so you'll also need to be physically fit. Role will include onsite and laboratory-based earthworks and aggregates testing and pavement investigations, giving a great variety of hands-on work and the opportunity to work on different stages of the wind farm and on other projects as required.

About you
As our Project Laboratory Technician, ideally you will possess:

  • Laboratory experience in the civil engineering field in a project-based laboratory performing field-based testing and work
  • A relevant science tertiary qualification will be an added advantage but not required
  • The ability to work as part of a team and with some leadership experience
  • Extremely focused with a strong attention to detail
  • Good computer skills including word-processing and spreadsheet skills
  • A current full Class 1 driver’s licence

You will also need some flexibility to work at night and during weekends when the work demands. You will be motivated to take on a variety of tasks hands-on for different people and enjoy solving problems and delivering outcomes to customers. The current team enjoy working together and having fun whilst getting the job done.
