A bit about your role:

Within the business, the Senior Engineer – Geotechnical provides technical design & support, strategic input, and development of geotechnical engineering capability to the business that enhances our services to our clients and developing the operations business. This is across our roading networks, project earthworks and construction work which are wide varying.

This is a National role and you can be based anywhere in NZ.

Your day to day tasks will include:

This is a diverse role, and your day to day tasks will include:

Technical & Planning : Undertake and/or coordinate technical services and provide specialist technical and operational improvement advice and assistance to bids and operations in areas such as Methodologies and Method Statements, Asset Management, Testing and Quality Assurance, Design (including reports, drawings, specifications and producer statements), Value Engineering, Temporary works, Trouble shooting, Rework, Alternative Methods, Material substitution, Specifications & Claims and Safety in Design.

Technical Innovation: Identify, develop, and implement technical innovations that add value to

the Downer business.

Outcome Management: Assist in the implementation of control framework and monitoring process.

People Management & Development: Mentor cadets and graduates, proactively support and coach young talent. Support and undertake EngNZ mentoring needs for cadets and graduates to advance.

Knowledge Sharing: Maintain relationships with all Downer technical services, asset management and operational teams and promote collaboration and knowledge sharing. This includes facilitating workshops, regular meetings, training sessions and development of case studies.

Zero Harm, Quality Assurance & Risk Management: Ensure appropriate quality assurance systems and processes are implemented and applied.

Qualifications and Experience:

It is desirable to have:

  • BE (Civil) or other relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering
  • > 15 years technical and design experience preferably in retaining wall, pile and foundation design and construction
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) preferred or close to within 6 months
  • New Zealand seismic and liquefaction experience
  • Member of Engineering New Zealand (MEngNZ), Member of New Zealand Geotechnical Society
  • Proven willingness and capability to learn
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • A strong track record that clearly demonstrates leadership behaviors that empower others to make decisions, deliver and succeed.
  • A positive attitude and commitment to providing a high quality of service.
  • Skilled in relevant technical software and systems as well as word processing, spread-sheeting and other general computer software.
  • Be a team player.
  • A full class 1 Driver’s License
