Opportunities in Power System Modelling, EY-ROAM

Climate change is driving an unprecedented transformation in the global energy sector. The energy industry is transitioning to a low carbon, decentralised future, facing a wide range of engineering and economic challenges along the way.

EY-ROAM is a leading provider of electricity market modelling services in Australia and New Zealand. Our role in the energy industry is to provide evidence-based insights, enabling our clients to make informed decisions amidst uncertainty and change. We have developed software that can be used to model any electricity market or power system and has been used to model power systems and electricity markets in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Mexico and Africa. Our clients span the energy value chain including renewable energy and storage developers, energy sector investors, transmission and distribution network service providers, retailers, regulators and governments.

Recent projects include:

  • Assessing the feasibility of decarbonising electricity systems before 2040,

  • Cost-benefit analysis of major transmission network augmentations including QNI Minor, HumeLink, Marinus Link and VNI West based on extensive electricity market models,

  • Undertaking market due diligence and market modelling, including forecasting electricity prices, marginal loss factors, generation curtailment and FCAS market outcomes, to support the financing, acquisition, sale and valuation of batteries, pump-hydro, solar farms and wind farms, and

  • Conducting modelling of electricity markets to inform the development of Government policy including the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap and the Western Australia Whole of System Plan.

About the opportunity

Due to growing demand for our services we are looking for candidates with 2 or more years of power system modelling experience to join our team in Sydney, Brisbane or Perth as a Senior Consultant or a Manager.

You will be expected to conduct a range of power system studies including power flow and EMT studies to enable the team to provide our clients with evidence-based insights that enable informed decision making. In parallel with client engagements, you will also have the opportunity to target your learning and development towards key areas of interest.

Skills and attributes for success

We are seeking candidates that possess some or all of the following attributes:

  • Tertiary education in electrical engineering or a related field,

  • The ability to perform power systems studies such as power flow, stability and system strength modelling,

  • The ability to perform grid connection studies using PSSE and PSCAD,

  • The ability to work with our broader electricity market modelling team to inform power system planning and network development planning,

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to successfully convey meaningful insights to clients and colleagues.
