Our Cowal Gold Operation is a cornerstone asset located near West Wyalong in central NSW with a leadership team that continually focuses on embedding a values-driven culture aligned with our company vision to create a premier, global gold company.

A major milestone was achieved at Cowal in 2022 with Board and regulatory approvals for the development of the Cowal Underground Mine. The development of the Cowal Underground Mine is part of the Group’s goal of Cowal producing 350,000 ounces of low-cost gold a year and extending its mine life beyond 17 years while at the same time injecting significant economic benefit for all stakeholders. The planned underground project capital investment is A$380 million.

About the role

Evolution Mining currently has an opportunity for a Superintendent – Environment. Reporting to the Sustainability Manager the purpose is to drive the integration of environment and sustainability strategy, and to protect and enhance reputation, stakeholder relationships and environmental performance.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the environment governance and assurance practices through the integration of Evolution Sustainability Policy and Standards
  • Identifying and managing environmental and social risks and evolving issues, driving considered efficient outcomes ensuring compliance with legal obligations, including all social and environmental license conditions, agreements, permits
  • Contributing to the Life of Mine planning through delivery of the Sustainability planning elements; mine closure, emissions, biodiversity, water and permitting
  • Representing and promoting Evolution Mining at approved external forums
  • Accountable for environmental stewardship and reporting of ronment performance, by identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies
  • Collaborating with Group SMEs and external industry representatives on initiatives where required, supporting the delivery of Evolution’s Sustainability Strategy and reporting requirements, whilst sharing knowledge and experience with other sites

About you

Your knowledge and experience will contribute to ongoing success of our Cowal mine. To be successful in this role you must be skilled in working with people, relating, and networking along with having an ability to persuading and influence whilst adhering to our principles and values. Ideally you will have experience working in cross cultural environments with a track record in delivering results and meeting customer expectations. Experience in the Mining and/or Construction sectors would be highly desirable.

We are looking for people who have the following skills, experience, and qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications within the social sciences/environmental realm, postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.
  • Leading and facilitating project teams or working groups across multiple disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement including building strong relationships with NSW Department of Planning and Environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including experience in compliance reporting, media, community liaison, presenting, and negotiating to a variety of audiences
  • The ability to work closely and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Behaviours aligned with the Evolution Mining values of Safety, Excellence, Accountability and Respect.

This opportunity will further allow you to develop your technical and project management skills, learning and engaging with stakeholders across a breadth of mining operations and external bodies.
