Our Cowal Gold Operation is a cornerstone asset located near West Wyalong in central NSW with a leadership team that continually focus on embedding a values driven culture aligned with our company vision to create a premier, global gold company.
A major milestone was achieved at Cowal in 2021 with Board and regulatory approvals received for the development of the Cowal Underground Mine. The development of the Cowal Underground Mine is part of the site goal to produce 350,000 ounces of low-cost gold a year and extend its mine life out beyond 17 years, providing significant economic benefits within the region. The planned capital investment is A$380 million. A concurrent Feasibility Study is also underway, looking to continue open pit mining for a further 10 years, creating a strong Life of Mine inclusive of both open pit and underground mining.
About the role
We have a current opportunity for a Senior Mining Engineer to join the team on a permanent basis. Reporting to Technical Services Superintendent the purpose of this role is to provide Open Pit Mining Engineering expertise.
You will be responsible for safely planning, conducting, and supervising all short term mining engineering designs, plans, and analysis related to, Mine Planning, Drill and Blast, Mine Design, Waste Rock Dumps, Roads, Drains. This advice should be cost effective, functional and of sound design, that meet design criteria, ensure safety of personnel and maximise the recovery of the Reserve.
A key focus will be design, implementation and reviewing quality control / quality assurance specifications and documentation for mining activities, alongside analysis and design of corrective measures to ensure operational continuity.
Experience of ensuring 6 week planning and short term forecasts are aligned to budget and LOM plan is essential as well as Drill and Blast design and performance exposure and ideally, mine and capital project exposure

It us expected you will collaborate with Group SMEs on initiatives where required, participating in Evolution Communities of Practice to share knowledge and experience with other sites, contributing to our broader Net Zero 2050 goal.
To succeed in this role, you will be a seasoned and experienced Mining Engineer, skilled in working with people, relating, and networking along with having an ability to persuade and influence whilst adhering to our principles and values. Ideally you will have experience working in large open pit and underground environments with a track record in delivering results and meeting stakeholder expectations.
Within the role, you will be exposed to almost all parts of our Cowal Gold Operation and be a key member of the Integrated Planning team. It is expected you will have proven experience supported with a tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (or related discipline) and experience of managing teams, budgets, and cost effectively. To succeed in the role, you will have:

- Demonstrated experience of an equivalent size Open Cut, with a good understanding of production and advanced Deskwik knowledge.
- Proven experience of delivering operational efficiency, driving accurate and reliable interpretations/decisions, and implementing best practice in both technical and operational areas.
- High level communication skills, able to effectively communicate complex process ideas at all levels with a natural ability to build relationships across functions and operations.
