Our Cowal Gold Operation is a cornerstone asset located near West Wyalong in central NSW with a leadership team that continually focus on embedding a values driven culture aligned with our company vision to create a premier, global gold company.

A major milestone was achieved at Cowal in 2021 with Board and regulatory approvals received for the development of the Cowal Underground Mine. The development of the Cowal Underground Mine is part of the site goal to produce 350,000 ounces of low-cost gold a year and extend its mine life out beyond 17 years, providing significant economic benefits within the region. The planned capital investment is A$380 million. A concurrent Feasibility Study is also underway, looking to continue open pit mining for a further 10 years, creating a strong Life of Mine inclusive of both open pit and underground mining.

About the role

We have a current opportunity for a Category Specialist to join the team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Supply Superintendent the purpose of this role is to provide contract sourcing and commercial support including establishing the strategy, sourcing and overseeing the development of commercial agreements, including the tendering, negotiation and management of those agreements.

The position will be required to provide an agile and timely service to fast-paced business requirements in an environment that strives for continuous improvement and global best practice.

You will be responsible for the development and execution of agile, strategic sourcing activities; contract governance and management including development and achievement of commercial outcomes alongside providing procurement and category management leadership and development of key relationships with both service and goods providers.

To succeed in the role, you will demonstrate prior experience delivering commercially beneficial outcomes including the management of risk and return, driving commercially astute, market aware thinking, addressing long-term opportunities and assessing business risk.

A key focus will be design, implementation and reviewing quality control / quality assurance specifications and documentation for mining activities, alongside analysis and design of corrective measures to ensure operational continuity.

Safety is paramount in all we do, and you will lead a ‘Safety First’ approach, ensuring regular inspections and health and safety global best practise and culture is implemented, driving initiatives that safely improve and optimise production.

It us expected you will collaborate with Group SMEs on initiatives where required, participating in Evolution Communities of Practice to share knowledge and experience with other sites, contributing to our broader Net Zero 2050 goal.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will be a seasoned and experienced commercial/contracts/procurement professional, skilled in working with people, relating, and networking along with having an ability to persuade and influence whilst adhering to our principles and values. Ideally you will have experience working in mining, infrastructure or heavy engineering, with a track record in successfully delivering results and meeting stakeholder expectations.

Within the role, you will be exposed to almost all parts of our Cowal Gold Operation and require highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated capacity to develop viable business cases. You will have knowledge of the business drivers and issues facing a mid-tier gold company, translating these into requirements for inclusion in tender documents. Having a proven ability to work effectively in a complex, matrix management environment is a key requirement.
