The mine is located on the Norseman-Wiluna Greenstone Belt, which forms part of the Yilgarn Craton in Western Australia. It is a highly mineralised granite-greenstone terrain with world-class deposits of gold and nickel. St Ives has produced more than 10.5 million ounces of gold, with the first major gold mining expedition commencing in the mid-1980s.
St Ives Gold Mine operates mainly on a residential basis, with employees either living in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie.
Role Details
Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Planning Engineer to join their Open Pit Mining Department at St Ives Gold Mine.
Reporting to the Senior Engineer: Mine Production, you will be responsible for planning functions of the Open Pit operations to meet all safety, production, and cost targets driven by the short and medium-term plan; and aligned with the strategic goals and objectives of the business unit, GFA, and GFL.

This role is offered on a 4 days on and 3 days off fly in fly out from Perth, or DIDO from the local community.

About the role.
- Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are always adhered to.
- Responsible for the safe and efficient completion of mine planning work.
- Operational planning, incorporating the medium and long term planning requirements.
- Undertake planning work for the safe and effective delivery of mine project work.
- Ensure business success by developing and implementing mine planning systems to ensure safe and economic target delivery.
- Develop drill and blast designs that maximise ore extraction and minimise dilution.
- Advising the Mining Manager of issues that may affect safe and efficient production through frequent communication in an appropriate manner.
- Be organized and prepared to undertake additional/alternative responsibilities as reasonably requested by Senior Engineer or Quarry Manager
About you:
- Tertiary Qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience within an open pit mining engineering experience, with exposure to mine planning, preferably gold.
- Exposure to Microsoft office and Deswik CAD and IS Scheduler.
- Hold a Valid Driver’s Licence
- Ability to mentor and develop the capability of Graduate Engineers
