St Ives is located on the Norseman-Wiluna Greenstone Belt, which forms part of the Yilgarn Craton in Western Australia. It is a highly mineralised granite-greenstone terrain with world-class deposits of gold and nickel. St Ives has produced more than 10.5 million ounces of gold, with the first major gold mining expedition commencing in the mid-1980s.

St Ives Gold Mine operates mainly on a residential basis, with employees either living in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie.

Role Details:

Reporting to the Unit Manager: Technical Services (St Ives), you will be responsible for facilitating the optimal extraction of gold ore from mining operations through the provision of comprehensive underground mine planning, design, evaluation, and scheduling that achieves the requirements of the business in alignment with EHS standards.

This role is offered on 8 days on, 6 days off roster, and is FIFO from Perth or residential from Kambalda or Kalgoorlie.

Duties of the role:

  • Assist the Unit Manager: Technical Services to set the strategic direction and short to mid-term production targets for the Invincible Underground Mine
  • Ensure the business can make informed decisions by identifying, planning, and communicating extraction strategies, critical paths, and high risk areas as part of an iterative scenario planning process
  • Create, support, and manage underground short to medium term mine design, scheduling, and evaluation work, including the design of all aspects of an underground mine including ventilation, dewatering, backfill, electrical and other infrastructure
  • Establish and maintain regular, clear, and concise communication with all stakeholders
  • Assist in the preparation of budget plans and schedules
  • Produce accurate, and timely, quarterly and monthly schedules aligned with the Business Plan and LoM Strategy
  • Manage, support, and help grow planning team members for future success
  • Develop and maintain mine planning systems and standards-aligned to St Ives and Gold Fields corporate processes as well as all applicable statutory requirements.

About You:

You will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
  • First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency
  • Extensive underground mining experience with excellent knowledge in the fields of production, ventilation, projects, paste fill, planning, and scheduling
  • Exposure to a variety of different ore body types and models – preferably utilising long hole open stoping mining methods with paste fill
  • Contractor management of mining service providers' experience
  • Demonstrated exposure to Microsoft Office, Deswik CAD, and Scheduler software
  • Valid Driver’s License
