Key Responsibilities

Work closely with the Project Management team and wider rolling stock stakeholders to scope, develop, prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor assigned engineering projects. Responsible for the design, development and delivery of the project’s initiatives, including; Door Overhaul, Horn Upgrades and Door System modification initiatives. This is a hands-on role, where you will undertake wide variety of tasks ranging from first principle system design to on-site production support.

Ensuring the project complies with Metro governance requirements, and that OH&S, quality, cost, time and scope parameters of the projects are adequately set out and achieved.

This new role is offered on a 18+ month Max-Term Contract position, you will operate out of Metros Craigieburn Maintenance Facility \with some travel around the network as required.

Project Engineering Responsibilities

  • Manage aspects of allocated projects in conjunction with relevant stakeholders and contractors.
  • Provide information and communications to depot and maintenance staff on project technical matters.
  • Facilitate and guide Risk Assessments, FMECA workshops and formal design reviews.
  • Embed design for reliability, availability, maintainability and safety principles into system specification and supplier designs.
  • Prepare and present a range of reports to internal and external stakeholders and industry forums.
  • Deliver assigned projects which includes scope, design, implementation, testing, commissioning, and contract management including:
    • managing technical detail and outcomes
    • negotiating and securing resources;
    • managing suppliers, project team (where applicable), project programme, budget, risks, contingency plans and KPIs
    • resolving supplier requirements and priority conflicts.

Engineering Responsibilities

  • Strong input to the functional specifications, scrutinise and evaluate all emerging design data
  • Performance of the fleet is always optimised for the business, safety, reliability, comfort and whole-life maintenance and operating costs.
  • Engineering deliverables: technical evidence, cost/benefit predictions, design documents, specifications, work method statements, Work Instructions, risk assessments etc.
  • Due Diligence, develop solutions to technical issues, working across the Business and with suppliers
  • Engineering judgement to ensure that all proposals for engineering changes comply with relevant technical standards and meet the Essential Requirements of railway safety and interoperability.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
  • 3+ years in an Engineering role (such as System Engineer, Design Engineer, Project Engineer, Graduate Engineer, Testing & Commissioning Engineer).
  • Stakeholder engagement across multi - disciplinary organisations
  • Working knowledge of estimating and cost management preferred
