This is your chance to be part of an organization working on multiple projects in Victoria’s Big Build which is delivering 165 major road and rail projects, including Metro Tunnel, a second underground railway for Melbourne with 5 new stations, removal of 85 level crossings across Melbourne and the Melbourne Airport Rail.


The Business Analyst position is responsible for analysing a wide range of complex maintenance processes, working closely with business units to understand their business and information needs, and assisting them to resolve their problems/design and implement solutions in a cost effective and timely manner.


  • Investigate and document business requirements using a range of tools and techniques including interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process analysis, scenarios, and task/workflow analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to propose the business and technical solution designs (including to-be business processes), bearing in mind trade-offs between reliability, performance and time/cost.
  • Develop key project artefacts, including requirement documents, maintenance documents, process maps, support plans, etc.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, deconstruct information into more easily accessible details and distinguish requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Participate and manage document review processes with engineering support teams to ensure issues are handled promptly and ensure support manuals and processes are up-to-date and comply with in-house standards.
  • Develop an understanding of the MTM organisational context, structure and operation to identify impact of proposed changes on the organisation.


  • A relevant postgraduate qualification with 5+ year’s relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Extensive ability to identify, assess and support stakeholders needs and how to best engage strategically to achieve project goals and objectives.
  • Thorough understanding and extensive business analysis experience on complex engineering related projects in relation to:

o Business analysis planning and monitoring

o Requirement’s analysis and elicitation, including functional and non-functional requirements

o Requirements management and communication

o Enterprise analysis

o Business process improvements; and

o Solution assessments, implementation and validation.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).
  • Extensive analytical, problem solving, influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Experience working with vendors and/or external contractors to successfully deliver project outcomes.
