Our Western Program Alliance is looking for a Signalling Engineer to work on our ongoing Level Crossing Removal Projects across Victoria.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for providing specialist advice and management services for the design, construction, testing and commission of signalling systems ensuring that the requirements of the project are delivered safely, within budget and fit for purpose.

You’ll work closely with key project stakeholders to ensure that the design, development and implementation of Signalling works are undertaken in accordance with MTM Safety Management System. The role supports the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems and follows practices and methodologies to ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and passengers and that the MTM operating system is not compromised throughout the project life cycle.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Oversee and support Signalling construction activities within a live rail environment
  • Oversee and support Signalling Testing and Commissioning activities during commissioning events
  • Assist in the administration and control of Contractor Instructions, ensuring that any change of scope, direction to proceed, site instruction (etc.) is given to the Contractor(s) in writing and correctly documented
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in the detailed planning for specific project activities, as assigned by the Project Manager
  • Manages the development and submission of scoping documents and proposals assigned to the Project
  • Discharge all responsibilities in a manner that ensures the safety of the operating system is not compromised during the life of the project
  • Manage individual packages of work on the project and overall technical coordination of the complete signalling system and all signalling system interfaces
  • Produce and submit forecast costs for the incoming months of the project, based on information of the remaining to go of a PO/contract or works
  • Manage the receipt of design information and drawings, including ensuring that a current drawing register is maintained, and that the documentation is issued to all the relevant parties
  • Assess, review and monitor the design deliverable schedules, responses to RFI’s, designs and T&C Plan related documents required for the works
  • Manage the handover process at project completion ensuring that all the key stakeholders are involved, and that project documentation is completed in accordance with procedures
  • Work with multi-discipline teams, coordinating inputs and reaching a decision for the benefit of the project and interfacing with other disciplines
  • Ensure successful delivery of the Signalling Design including its interfaces and integration with other subsystems
  • Regularly monitoring critical path(s) of program activities to enable timely issues, risks and opportunities identification and subsequent effective management of those

Your experience

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering or equivalent
  • 3 to 4 years’ experience in Engineering, Rail and Construction
  • 3 to 4 years’ experience with stakeholder engagement across multi - disciplinary organisations
  • Working knowledge of Metro, its operations and stakeholders
