The Manager HSEC Group Projects will play a pivotal role for the Newcrest Group Projects Team ensuring procedural operational readiness across all project stages from Feasibility to Implementation and Operational Handover.

This is a full-time, 12-month fixed term contract position with flexible location; domestic interstate travel will be a requirement to support projects in the group portfolio (on an as-needs basis)

Who we’re looking for

This role offers a rare opportunity for your career to progress beyond project specific roles/small portfolios into a large portfolio of works as part of a strong readiness and assurance team where you can make a difference to project and business outcomes.

This role will aim to improve project performance via early project and stakeholder engagement, process refinement, training and governance/assurance reviews. You will define and oversee HSEC deliverables, through your visible frontline leadership to Owner’s project teams and external contractors across a high-value projects portfolio ($5B AUD).

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide generalist H&S advice to the Projects Group Leadership Team, Project Directors, Project Managers, HSEC Lead and Workplace Health & Safety Advisors
  • Develop portfolio wide HSEC focused KPIs and reporting that aims to provide insights and trends
  • Support Project Teams in developing project wide HSEC plans and review of subcontractors plans
  • Lead Significant (Potential) Incidents investigations related to Projects Group activities
  • Identify Projects Group training needs and develop proposals for consideration to undertake training
  • Develop a HSEC specific Projects HSEC Plan Guideline and related assurances review checklist(s)
  • Develop a project portfolio assurance review schedule taking into consideration projects stage, complexity, risks and value. Consideration to be given to both desktop and location-based reviews.
  • Administer central systems, processes and databases e.g. CHESS, CCM for the Projects Group and expedite contributor performance and issues resolution
  • Consolidate WHSE risk assessments across the portfolio and consideration of trends, common actions and initiatives

About you:

As a Senior HSEC Leader, key to your success in this role will be to demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment and driving Newcrest’s Safety transformation and supporting safety systems, for a safety-first work culture.

You will be looking to progress your career or ‘cement’ your previous portfolio roles into a defining career role.

You will also possess the following:

  • Either Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate’s Degree in Industrial Safety, Safety Management, Engineering, Environment or related technical field
  • Significant experience in Senior Health, Safety or Environmental role(s), gained in mining operations, or projects (similar relevant complex heavy industrial environments considered)
  • Demonstrable HSEC Management experience in heavy industrial construction essential (ideally high-value portfolio projects), with a strong understanding of the full project cycle
  • Portfolio planning and reporting, Process/Procedure development and refinement
  • Strong understanding of ICAM investigation methodologies development

You bring strong consultative and influencing skills with exceptional stakeholder management experience. Your excellent verbal and written communication skills will also be held in high regard as will your ability to work in a fast-paced environment where you can play an instrumental role in leading change and driving results.
