Currently we are undertaking stage three of Cadia’s mine life strategy by further developing our underground mine to include its 3rd panel, as well as increasing our ore handling and processing capability.

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for

Reporting into the Superintendent Geotechnical Engineer, the primary purpose of this position is to implement the highest standards in geotechnical engineering at Cadia Valley Operations. This role will provide geotechnical design and analysis, strategy, support and services to the Cadia operation through a range of cave operation stages. The role dimensions will provide guidance to decision making across a range of cave operation stages including cave establishment, cave propagation and production.

It’s an exciting time to join Cadia as this role will require you to deliver the PC2-3 and PC1-2 cave footprints on-time, maintaining safe-production in the operations (PC1 and PC2) using geotechnical engineering analysis and results that deliver safe, business effective and realistic outcomes.

A few of your key accountabilities will include;

  • Deliver to the Cadia geotechnical team the safe cave establishment of PC2-3 and PC1-2 caving footprints.
  • Constructing and analysing geotechnical cave propagation and cave flow numerical models to assist safe operations for Cadia Operations and the PC2-3, PC1-2 project.
  • Implementing the Cave Management Plan at Cadia to provide alignment and operating discipline ensuring safe business outcomes.
  • Writing reports, presenting, and communicating with stakeholders to summarise key findings and results that provide beneficial business outcomes
  • Liaising with all stakeholders within Newcrest to deliver best practice outcomes
  • Providing training and upskilling in geotechnical numerical modelling to Cadia team members as part of development plans

As a degree (Bachelors or higher) qualified Geotechnical Engineer with around 8-10 years’ experience, you will be an expert in underground hard rock mining. Demonstrated experience in advanced geomechanics is a must. Experience in any of the related geotechnical modelling and analysis software packages would be beneficial, in particular FLAC3D and/or Voxler, cave flow numerical software and Deswik.
