We have an exciting opportunity for a Superintendent Approvals to join our Strategy, Planning & Performance team based at Cadia mine, near Orange in central west NSW. You will be responsible for delivering regulatory approvals in a timely manner for new projects and activities.

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity; based in Orange NSW region - working a 5 days on / 2 days off roster (Mon – Fri)

Our Cadia site is located in Central West New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional town of Orange. Employees reside in the varied accommodation options in Orange, with the surrounding winery and national park areas to enjoy.

Who we’re looking for

A key aspect of the role is liaising between projects teams, operational teams, and site-based management to ensure that clear and concise information is developed, to facilitate the regulatory approvals process.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and track the site governance plan for regulatory approvals, including planning schedules and approvals required
  • Provide technical advice to operational and functional teams on environmental regulatory licenses and requirements
  • Support the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement plans for all environmental approvals
  • Develop and coordinate strategic plans for all project environmental approval applications
  • Effective liaison with operational technical, environmental, safety, and community relations teams to deliver successful strategic plans regarding environmental approvals
  • Project management of external specialist consultants related to environmental approvals
  • Liaise with relevant regulatory agencies to appropriately identify key concerns and address them in a timely manner
  • Support proactive and comprehensive stakeholder consultation to deliver project approvals; and the mitigation of social performance risks related to direct impacts on stakeholders
  • Manage the process for obtaining and then supporting operating permits and approvals

About You

To succeed in this role, you will be safety focused, team oriented and enjoy working with a range of stakeholders to achieve approvals for key projects and business strategies. You will be recognised for being highly resilient and organised, with exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills.

  • Tertiary qualified with a degree in Environmental Science/ Environmental Planning (or related discipline) with significant planning and/or environmental management experience
  • Significant demonstrable experience in obtaining planning approvals within the mining sector (or similar heavy industrial / civil infrastructure project environments)
  • An understanding of and ability to interpret the NSW and Commonwealth planning, mining and environmental legislation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
