Lead the identification of Environmental Approvals requirements for the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal requirements – as well as activities and reporting to achieve and demonstrate this compliance and best practice.

This project focused role will be offered initially as a 2 year fixed term contract, based in Orange NSW.

We have 2 positions available; working back-to-back 8/6 rosters.

Operations near and far

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for

As an Environmental and Approvals Lead, you will identify Environmental Risks associated with tailings construction operations at Cadia. You will also assist the operations, alliance, and other stakeholders with the risk identification and the robust implementation of controls to ensure project compliance to environmental and approval commitments:

  • Develop and implement a range of environmental monitoring programs to track (and report on) the site’s environmental performance in accordance with statutory approvals and business requirements
  • Management of the projects permitting and approvals register.
  • Visible Safety Leadership
  • Develop and lead implementation of the project Environmental Management Plan
  • Environmental project reporting
  • Visibly role model safe and operationally disciplined leadership through regular performance of FCCC’s and safety interactions
  • Ensuring the Project complies with all Cadia’s EIS, all statutory approvals, local council approval requirements, existing project commitments such as compliance conditions of previous modifications (Eg. Mod-13) and the conditions of the MOD14 Development Consent and their Social License to Operate obligations
  • Monitor compliance of sub-contractors with environmental requirements
  • Interfacing with CVO environmental department on matters of process for the project such as EIP’s and ensuring that the project maintains an aligned approach to approvals and delivers best for business outcomes
  • Develop schedules and budgets associated with environmental compliance and approval

You will also possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualified with a degree in environmental science or related discipline
  • At least 5 years’ demonstrated environmental management experience, preferably within an applicable industry (Mining, heavy industry, civil construction, or similar)
  • A detailed understanding of the NSW and Commonwealth planning, mining and environmental legislation
  • Significant demonstrable experience in dealing with environmental approvals & have dealt with government bodies
