Executive Manager Projects & Assets

The Port of Newcastle (PON) is Australia’s deepwater gateway to the world and facilitates approximately $37bn in trade to Australia each year.

Reporting to the CEO and as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, The Executive Manager of Projects and Assets is responsible for leading the Projects & Assets department for the organisation. The Executive Manager Projects & Assets is accountable for, but not limited to, functions associated with project management, procurement and contracts, engineering services and asset management, in addition to Executive Leadership, Strategy, and Stakeholder Engagement.

Key criteria includes:

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes in a diverse range of organisational settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to systematically structure and develop an efficient department.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement transformational change within an organisation.
  • Proven ability to establish and lead the agenda for a function/department with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with Executive teams, Boards and a complex range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a strategic and operational capacity.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering or related disciplines.
  • Strong project management background with a minimum of 15 years’ experience successfully delivering end to end projects.
  • Ability to transition an organisation from reactive processes to one that sets and meets targets for projects and builds capability around people, systems and processes.
  • Strong commercial acumen demonstrating the ability to capitalise on commercial opportunities.
  • Demonstrated leadership in procurement for large scale capital projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership in successfully delivering major infrastructure projects.
  • Leadership of internal and external teams developing medium to major projects.
  • Leadership in the implementation of best practice project management practices.
  • Contractor/Consultant relationship management to deliver significant value improvements.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, engagement, influencing and negotiation skills.

Desirable criteria includes:

  • In depth knowledge of the industry and its current events.
