Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometers west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

About the role

To drive the improvement process and implementation of the Operating System at Cannington mine. The Improvement Principal is responsible for rolling out the MOS (Management Operating System), tracking implementation of business improvement initiatives and coaching personnel on best practices.

Reporting to the Manager Improvement, the role is being offered on a permanent basis, on an 4/3 roster Mon to Thurs, FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

  • Coaching and mentoring line department team members (idea Owners, frontline) in business improvement and Operating System best practices
  • Support execution of the Cannington Business Plan and Cannington Operating Philosophy
  • Be a strong leader in all improvement areas including safety
  • Conduct constraint analysis
  • Analyse site operating data to support business improvement initiatives
  • Supporting the embedment of management operating system (MOS) across the Cannington value chain

About you

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mining or Processing related fields
  • Very strong consulting skills and/or Operational experience and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in a Business Improvement role
  • Strong influencing skills, capable of driving significant change Coaching skills
  • 10 to 15 Minimum years of work experience
  • Demonstrated competency in development of effective solutions to diverse business problems
  • Experience in improvement disciplines including lean, six sigma, theory of constraints, design thinking
  • Outstanding analytical skills and experience in improvement projects: process control / optimisation, de-bottlenecking, productivity improvement
  • Experience in capability building programs
  • Experience in the development of performance reporting, analytics and visualisation, governance and implementation roadmaps
  • Strong understanding of digital / technologies and how they drive business value
  • Advanced capability in data analysis and visualisation (minimum Microsoft Excel and PowerBI)
