The Opportunity – Permanent, Full Time Position

This important and influential role contributes to the creation and protection of value at South32. The purpose of Group Manager Assurance is to provide independent and objective assurance over South32’s system of risk management to executive management and the Board. The role is accountable for the following:

  • Influencing the design and strengthening South32’s “three lines” operating model
  • Developing South32’s Internal Audit Plan
  • Designing and executing the work of Internal Audit
  • Coordinating the combined assurance plan and shared learnings (working with 2nd line assurance (stewardship))
  • Reporting against planned activities to the Board

Reporting to the Vice President Group Risk & Assurance, key role accountabilities include:

  • Develop the annual internal audit plan to meet Board, Risk and Audit Committee (RAC), Sustainability Committee (SusCo) and other regulatory requirements.
  • Manage a dynamic team of internal and co-sourced auditors and specialists to deliver the internal audit plan.
  • Analyse and present priority findings, emerging trends and internal audit reports to management and the Board (RAC and SusCo) within the appropriate business context.
  • Provide an annual review of South32’s internal control and risk management processes to the RAC.
  • Ensure the effective coordination of 2nd and 3rd line assurance activity and sharing of learnings arising from this assurance activity across the Group.
  • Improving the effectiveness of internal audit in delivering the 3rd line.
  • Foster an inclusive workplace with a strong culture of care and accountability.

About You

You will be required to have the following:

  • Exceptional influencing of key stakeholders
  • Systems thinking and the ability to apply cause and effect analysis
  • Experience in effective line management
  • Effective reporting to executive management and/or Board
  • Presenting with influence, impact and awareness at a Board and Leadership level
  • Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams in a multi-cultural and multi-national environment
  • Previous experience in a leadership role in assurance, risk or related roles, preferably in a globally diverse listed company

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Commerce, Engineering or a relevant technical (i.e. Risk Management) discipline
  • Professional auditing qualification (Institute of Internal Auditors) or similar would be advantageous

Location

This role will be based at our office in the heart of the Perth CBD, with some travel required to domestic and international operations during the execution of the internal audit plan.
