The opportunity:
Part of the Rail Engineering team; Senior Consultant - Train Control Systems (Traffic Management Systems) will focus on providing engineering advisory and technical services to support the creation & growth of advanced train control capabilities within SYSTRA.

The opportunity will require you to apply your engineering expertise across a variety of rail infrastructure projects to ensure engineering excellence in an innovative and collaborative environment.

Your new role:

  • Provide technical advice during different stages of the project lifecycle from feasibility to design and from construction to system integration and commissioning. With a focus on Traffic Management / Automatic Train Control systems.
  • Produce and review technical deliverables such as technical option reports, engineering principles, detail designs, test procedures, etc.
  • Apply system engineering techniques to support the production of technical deliverables (requirement traceability, system modelling, configuration management, etc.).
  • Work with wide range of system assurance teams (Safety, Human Factors, etc.) to support the demonstration that the systems deployed is fit for purpose.
  • Support business readiness teams to analyse and understand the impact of technical decisions on the process and people aspects of the system.
  • Work with clients to understand essential objectives and desired outcomes for each project.


Requirements and experience:

  • Bachelor or higher-level qualifications in a relevant/related Engineering discipline or Systems Engineering is mandatory
  • Be working towards a chartered or equivalent professional status from a relevant Institution (e.g. Engineers Australia, RPEQ and or CPEng).
  • Experience in a Rail Traffic Management Systems in the modern Train Control technologies context (e.g. ETCS, CBTC).
  • Demonstrated experience in Feasibility, System or Preliminary design phases or system testing on a project of technical relevance.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying systems engineering techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience of having worked in a project subject to a Cenelec-based safety demonstration.
  • A thorough knowledge of industry standards for Train Control Systems (ETCS, CBTC, etc.)
  • The ability to work to timeframes with a high degree of organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to pick up new skills and capabilities to compliment a multi-disciplined project team.
  • High degree of adaptability and willingness to learn.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication to be able to present results to technical and non-technical audiences, to engage with stakeholders and to report about the work delivered.
  • Good to advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office suite, and other industry relevant modelling and analysis software.
