Rail & Technology Systems – Project Manager

The role of Project Manager is to deliver contractually required project outcomes, whilst maintaining or improving planned revenue, gross margin, and cash flow expectations as agreed and documented at contract award, and operating within the limits of delegated responsibility, accountability and authority.

The Project Manager will manage and control all project management baselines as applicable to assigned signalling project(s), through all phases of the project lifecycle as defined by and in accordance with the UGL project management framework.

The Project Manager delivers project outcomes by assignment of project work packages to applicable functional representatives within the business, and hence will be a strong leader within a matrix style operational environment.


  • Have a good knowledge of signal design & signal construction
  • Signal design management
  • CCB Safety Assurance processes
  • Responsibility to Bid manage tenders with a good understanding of railway signalling knowledge
  • Involvement and support of all UGL HSSE requirements including participation in proactive safety measures and HSSE improvement plan initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and champion all requirements of assigned project(s).
  • Be the primary UGL Rail and Technology Systems contact with the customer nominated representative for designated project(s) and cultivate and manage this relationship in a manner congruent with CIMIC UGL Principles.
  • Detailed review of the project scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements as defined in the project handover documentation, and subsequent initiation and setup of the project baselines within the agreed timeframes.
  • Working with the relevant operations, lines of business, and functions within the Rail and Technology Systems business unit, mobilise a project team and assign internal responsibilities for delivery of specific project requirements.
  • Generation of the appropriate project planning and management documentation as contractually required, and in accordance with UGL project management framework and best practice.
  • Build effective internal and external relationships to ensure open and honest communications are maintained and any problems/concerns are resolved in a timely manner to mitigate impact to project performance.
  • Participate in the bid and tender efforts as requested, to ensure that the capabilities and requirements of the respective operation and line of business applicable to the work being tendered are communicated and represented within the tender in such a way as to minimise risks during execution of the work.

Qualifications and education requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in an Engineering or related discipline. / Management Degree
  • Sound understanding of PMBoK, Prince2, Agile, or other appropriate project management methodology.
  • Experience in MS Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent scheduling software.
  • Demonstrated experience with project control techniques, earned value management, S-curve reporting, risk and opportunity management, and project financial forecasting.
  • Experience working in signal environment design / construction
  • A minimum of 10 years’ demonstrable experience in, and sound understanding of, project management in a multi-disciplined construction, maintenance or engineering environment.
