About the role
Ventia’s Defence Base Services (DBS) team are seeking an experienced Senior Data Specialist to join their Finance team based in Perth WA. Due to the diverse nature and geographical spread of our business, we will also consider other candidates who reside in Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide.

About you
Reporting directly to the (DBS) Finance Reporting Manager you are a highly experienced Data Analyst who can provide practical data & analytics to enable the delivery of long-term sustainable change and improvement across the DBS contract. This role is integral in providing quantitative and qualitative analytics to help the business produce benefits that lead to strategic outcomes and influence key business decisions.

As an experienced Data Analyst, you are responsible for managing the master data, developing reports and troubleshooting data issues. You are adept in translating project requirements into custom-formatted data reports. The ideal candidate for this position can complete life cycle data generation and outline critical information for each program of work. Therefore, you are someone with a keen eye for detail and have a thorough understanding of data analysis and visualisation tools and systems.

Key duties, but not limited to:

  • Build analytics tools that utilise the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer requirements, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics
  • Assemble large & complex data sets that meet functional/non-functional business requirements
  • Identify, design and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimising data delivery and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability
  • Create data tools for data analytics team and operational managers that assist them in building and optimising our product into an innovative industry leader
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems

Skills and experience:

In addition to your formal qualifications and experience, we seek to employ people who possess:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in a true Data Analytics role
  • Degree qualified in IT, Engineering or Finance
  • Strong Data visualisation and storytelling skills in both Power BI and Excel
  • Analytical experience in a Finance division (Management or Financial Accounting Reporting, Balance Sheet Reporting, Reconciliation) or demonstrable understanding of these concepts not essential but would be considered favourably
  • Ability to source data through data systems and databases (SAP BW, SQL etc). SQL experience advantageous but not essential to this role
  • In depth understanding of relational database management systems
  • Strong problem solving and diagnostic skills
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • An ability to successfully engaging stakeholders from various levels of the business
  • High level of detail

Other special conditions

The incumbent to this position must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance up to a level of negative vetting 1 (secret). As a result of this requirement the incumbent is preferred to be an Australian Citizen.
This position requires a National Criminal History Check and a valid Australian driver’s licence.
