We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Specialist at Perth Head Office, on a Permanent Full-Time basis.

About this role

As the Payroll Specialist, you will be required to provide key support to the Payroll Team Leader with expert payroll knowledge and coordinating the work for the payroll team on a day to day basis and deputises for Payroll Team Leader as needed.

  • Responsible for development and implementation of new requirements, enhancements and obligations for payroll systems, time keeping systems and processes in collaboration with IT and HR.
  • Acts as an escalation point for complex payroll related queries while providing a valued advisory service to employees and formal leaders on routine payroll matters.

  • Western Power industrial agreements and human resource policies are well understood with sufficient depth of knowledge to provide routine interpretive advice to the team, employees and formal leaders.
  • Legislative changes affecting payroll, superannuation, salary packaging, taxation are well understood, communicated and implemented effectively.
  • Initiate and implement process improvements where opportunities exist within the payroll function.
  • Assist where required with the accurate completion of fortnightly end to end pay processing and disbursement activities to ensure the payroll delivery to employees and related disbursement processes are made in a timely manner.
  • Develop & maintain effective process documentation to support payroll processes.
  • Foster team morale and maintain a calm and positive approach through peak workload periods to support colleagues.
  • Actively participate in safety and health activities and contribute towards a culture of safety excellence within the team.

About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • A minimum of 5 + years in a senior payroll position in a large, complex organisation – including award interpretation, rostering & shift work, overtime & allowance claims, reimbursements, salary packaging.
  • In depth experience/use of payroll systems e.g. Ellipse, SAP, Oracle, Alesco
  • Demonstrated success in implementing process improvements and documenting work instructions for others.
  • Comprehensive and deep knowledge of Australian payroll legislative requirements
