We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician based out of Moore Street Perth, on a Full-Time basis.

About this role

The Engineering Technician is required to act as Western Power’s central point of control to manage and coordinate the secure access to all CBD sites that are high risk, visible and have security implications, whilst managing any negotiations required with external building / facilities management and other authorised stakeholders.

This role is also responsible for:

  • Ensuring that HV distribution facility users, including major customers are confident that the systems are effectively managed through monitoring and auditing.
  • Audits, Recertification & Investigation reports to meet scheduled timeframes and that recommendations are enacted and effective.
  • Effectively managing stakeholder relationships in order to ensure and secure 24x7 accesses to buildings. Reviewing and endorsing distribution switching authorisation and recertification portfolios.
  • Contributing and participating in Network Access process improvements undertaken individually, or as part of a team.
  • Ensuring the technical quality and safety conformance of Network Access documentation and processes while significantly contributing to technical improvements and conformance with Network facility Access.
  • Reporting & documenting key areas for development, and implement improvements

About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Electrical Trade qualification and/or a 2 year Diploma in a relevant electrical discipline
  • Must possess Federal and State Police clearance certificates
  • Preferably 4 - 6 years demonstrated technical experience & knowledge of distribution networks (construction, maintenance and/or operation)
  • Sound knowledge of substation supply arrangements, Western Power substation design and operating standards (ESSR, Switch Gear etc), distribution switching authorities and distribution equipment condition and standards
  • Sound knowledge of computer based design, complex networked or distributed systems & business systems
  • Thorough knowledge of Western Power’s safe operating and network access practices with a demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Strong orientation towards engineering & technical excellence.
  • Experience in building effective relationships and positively engaging with external stakeholders. This is essential to communicate Western Power’s technical requirements for substation access to other government agencies like PTA, WAWA , major customers, building owners and facility managers
  • Sound knowledge of MS Office systems (Word, Excel & Access), MIMS, DOCS, Lotus Notes, and any specialist applications applicable to the Section and Stream, including Microstation, TIMS and ENMAC
  • Ability to work unsupervised, prioritise and critically assess own performance
  • Sound communication and negotiation skills
