We currently have an exciting opportunity for an 18-month full-time maximum term Communications Specialist to support our Operational Maintenance function. Initially you’ll be based at our Jandakot Depot, then moving to the new state-of-the-art South Metro Depot in Forrestdale in the first half of 2023. Some travel to other metro and regional depots will be required.


About this role

This role is accountable for providing communications advice and support services to our stakeholders within the Operational Maintenance function (1100 employees) that grow employee engagement and advocacy and protect and promote Western Power’s reputation. Our employee depots service communities from Geraldton in the north to Kalgoorlie in the east and Albany in the south.

You’ll be part of our Stakeholders & Communications team, and as Communications Specialist for Operational Maintenance you’ll be required to:

  • Hold accountability for developing and implementing internal communications plans across a geographically spread workplace with a focus on collaboration, employee engagement and change communications.
  • Work under pressure to deliver projects with competing deadlines in a professional manner.
  • Build and maintain successful networks with key internal stakeholders.
  • Support and grow the communications capability of operational leaders.
  • Source, create and produce engaging content for different channels.
  • Ensure communications are of the highest standard, compliant with brand and style guides, and aligned our corporate purpose, values and objectives.

About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Tertiary qualification in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related discipline
  • At least 5+ years’ experience in a communications or similar position within a large organisation
  • Ability to develop and implement communications plans that achieve objectives, including media training program
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills and a natural collaborator
  • Desirable: CMS (SharePoint), design and digital communications platforms and applications (including Yammer).
