The role:

We are looking for an experienced Concrete Plant Manager to join the team on a permanent basis to successfully formulate, communicate and implement sound strategies and plans to optimise the profit and performance of our West Melbourne concrete plant. This role is integral to the concrete operations in the Metro business, servicing critical major infrastructure projects in Melbourne.

The primary focus of this role will be ensuring we achieve safe and quality outcomes during the batching and dispatching of the concrete as well as managing the plant team (day shift and night shift operations) including contractors at site. This role is based in West Melbourne and will report and be supported by the Area Operations Manager and is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to progress within the Concrete Operations team.

Key duties:

  • Managing day to day activities of the site that has circa 40 plant staff and drivers, both employees and contractors;
  • Managing accurate batching of orders to specified mix designs utilising the Command Batch program and the docket dispatch system;
  • Managing day to day administration of the Concrete Batch Plant including stock control of raw materials;
  • Managing a large fleet of trucks;
  • Reporting on cost estimates and monthly forecasts;
  • Manage operating assets to achieve maximum availability and productivity; and
  • Liasing with the community to ensure a sustainable operation.

What are we looking for?

  • Relevant batching and/or concrete industry experience with supervisory skills;
  • A strong commitment to safety and the environment along with a superior customer focus;
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills along with sound computer literacy;
  • Effective time management with the ability to work well under pressure & complete multiple tasks to deadlines;
  • Experience in the implementation of Lean manufacturing principles will be highly regarded and,
  • Availability to work Monday – Saturday and on shift as required.
