About the Role

BHP has recently announced it has signed a Sale and Purchase Agreement for its 80% interest of the Poitrel and South Walker Creek Mines (together BHP Mitsui Coal) with Stanmore SMC Holdings Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Stanmore Resources Limited. These operations and this role will transition with the change in ownership mid 2022. Details of the transition will be discussed with candidates during the recruitment process.


The Specialist Mid-term Engineer will complete design work in the medium and long term planning horizons.

You will also be required to undertake the input & output of large complex datasets ensuring that accurate details have attributed.

These positions are regionally based, working a 8/6 roster Fly In Fly Out, Drive In Drive Out and residential arrangements will all be considered.

In this position you will:

  • Complete reserving and strip designs for large open cut coal mines.
  • Complete dragline/dozerpush concepts for future strips
  • Reconcile actual vs planned performance with particular regard to coal loss and dilution
  • Maintain a safety focus and understand the effect of change on critical controls and risks.
  • Create and improve templates used to generate mine designs.
  • Be involved in the latest Mine Design software and configuration improvements.
  • Complete ad hoc mine planning tasks such as haulage, as required.
