Rio Tinto has recently launched a dedicated team to deliver large renewable energy solutions across our major jurisdictions. Rio Tinto Energy Development (RTED) is focusing on accelerating the development of future energy assets and securing high quality renewable energy development optionality. The team's focus on the provision of green energy will enable the decarbonisation of the company’s existing industrial operations and support Rio Tinto’s future growth

About the role

RTED has been established to support and accelerate the delivery of the Rio Tinto strategy. RTED will drive project delivery, with multiple renewable energy workstreams moving at pace. To advance Rio Tinto’s decarbonisation agenda, RTED will work closely with existing teams across our Product Groups and supporting functions to accelerate the delivery of renewables into the energy supply mix.

The Pacific region for RTED includes Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand and represents a naturally advantaged region for low cost renewable energy, creating significant opportunities for Rio Tinto. The Pacific Renewable Development team will enable new energy solutions to be delivered in the four locations, reducing scope 1 and 2 footprint, and protecting the cost position of existing assets. The energy solutions will be delivered in partnership, and require an understanding of both the renewable industry and commercial agreements.

As a newly created opportunity, the Commercial Energy Manager position will enable Rio Tinto to move at speed and assist with the development and implementation of energy-business opportunities across the four regions and will consider the long-term Rio Tinto energy strategy.

Key to success will be centred around developing objectives that are commercially sound and aligned with the Rio Tinto group and equally your familiarity and up to date experience with Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and their complexities. Equally of interest will be your ability to move quickly to secure a low-carbon smelter energy solution, with multiple deals underway and communication skills that work internally and externally to the business at all levels.

Working collaboratively and supporting others is going to be important in this role, complimented with experience with world class renewable project delivery and commercial structuring. If you have valuable experience with PPA’s, financial modelling, high level market analysis, deal structuring, debt equity and can balance this with judgement, insight, commercial acumen and practical experience then this role is one to apply for.
