About the Role
The Specialist Data Management, reporting to the Geophysics and Database Superintendent within a Technical Services team you will work alongside two experienced Specialist Data Managers to deliver the company’s vision that the coal geological databases and workflows are recognised as efficient and provide a single point of truth that runs through the business’ value chain; To provide frictionless access to that point of truth for its authorised stakeholders and also to encourage and facilitate the discovery of valuable insights from geoscience data.
As the Specialist Data Management, you will play an integral role in supporting a diverse team of stakeholders across multiple BHP functions. This is a newly created role, which will allow the successful candidate to actively participate in setting the scope and make an impact to the wider team.
You will have the opportunity to showcase your data systems and analytical skills, whilst working with a variety of stakeholders across highly technical disciplines to extract value from the geoscience data.
You will be responsible for the following:
- Ongoing validation and integrity of all data within the geology database;
- Identify, initiate and execute business improvement projects involving the optimisation of data acquisition;
- Supervise, coach and mentor employees in database management and geology systems;
- Regular opportunities to visit mine and exploration sites to disseminate database knowledge;
- Responsible for operating as an expert technical resource for all Geology data management systems and processes, and providing high level data analysis support and advice to Geoscience and Exploration staff / projects; and
- Generation and documentation of geological database systems and processes.
- Demonstrate and instil an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development
- Collaborate with multiple diverse teams
About You
- Ideally you will hold qualifications in data analytics or a similar discipline
- Excellent skills in SQL
- Well-developed skills in data analysis, data migration, data governance & data standardisation
- Prior experience working with technical groups
- Eye for detail & a technical curiosity for the insights hiding within our data-sets
- A highly collaborative individual with strong interpersonal, stakeholder relations & communication skills
- Have an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental & social responsibility
