Job Description

Abcam are a leading supplier of protein research tools to life scientists with a global reputation for excellent products with detailed technical specifications. We take pride in the quality and performance of the products we develop. We are looking for a motivated scientist with comprehensive research experience in the immuno-oncology field to join our Research and Development function (R&D). This role will represent the ‘voice of the researcher’, working closely with our global new product development and marketing teams to ensure that the quality and performance of the new products developed in our labs meet our customers’ needs now and in the future.

The Research Area Lead role will contribute to technical evaluation, planning and troubleshooting of our antibody generation projects, as well as manage product development collaborations with a global network of researchers. This role will support not only the antibody platform but also proteins, assays and cell engineering.

This job is based at either our Cambridge (UK) or Boston (US) site and is a full-time permanent role which will work closely with multiple teams in our global locations.

Responsibilities:

- Support successful delivery of great new products: work closely with global R&D and marketing colleagues to establish, manage, support and troubleshoot antibody discovery projects, approving new immuno-oncology antibodies for commercialization.

- Set product quality and performance standards for our products (such as antibodies, ELISA kits and other assays, proteins and cell lines), working collaboratively with our R&D scientists and project managers globally.

- Develop and manage product development collaborations and build a scientific network in the research communities we are serving.

- Ensure appropriate development and validation methods are in place for immuno-oncology products across our product development platforms.

- Support development and optimization of new technologies relevant to Immuno-oncology product development.

- Be a subject matter expert within a cross-functional team establishing the product roadmap and strategy for the Immuno-oncology area. Provide scientific and technical expertise across the business within your specific areas of experience.

- Maintain knowledge of the field, staying up to date on new developments, literature and methods. Attend meetings and conferences (some travel is required both international & national).

- Support effective management and visibility of our product development pipeline and track progress against strategy, working closely with Project Managers, technical lab-based teams and marketing teams.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • PhD in Immuno-oncology research with good knowledge of the progress and challenges in this field.
  • Strong technical skill set with hands on experience in antibody-based assays including flow cytometry, IHC, western blotting, immunocytochemistry and ELISA.
  • Familiarity in a range of core skills including cell culture, molecular biology, protein expression and purification.
  • Experience in working in cross-organizational collaborations to deliver on your research goals.
  • The ability to accurately and carefully interpret and analyze scientific data, planning robust experiments to resolve uncertainty.
  • Able to show technical leadership across multiple teams within a matrix environment.
  • You will be highly organized, adaptable, energetic, proactive, and a strong team player and influencer.
  • An effective communicator, comfortable building productive, trusting relationships within the team and across a global business.

Desirable:

  • Multiplex IHC experience, ideally including panel development, and familiarity with a range of IHC autostainers.
  • Direct experience in antibody discovery.
  • Previous experience within the pharmaceutical or biotech sector is a plus.
