As Associate Director of Global Procurement Communications, you will have lead responsibility for developing, managing and delivering globally integrated communications plans that positively impact culture, employee engagement, innovation and performance across Global Procurement. Alongside this, you will partner with key stakeholders across Global Procurement and the external supplier landscape to drive Corporate Affairs activities in support of AstraZeneca’s Sustainability strategy.

You will be the primary communications business partner to the Chief Procurement Officer, providing strategic executive communications support and counsel, and will play an active, contributing role on the Procurement Leadership Team (PLT).

You will work with the Procurement Leadership Team, senior leaders and functional communicators to ensure the delivery of timely, relevant, consistent and compelling communications that achieve tangible outcomes for the business. In this role, you will focus on ensuring transformational projects with broad impact and relevance to all employees (i.e. Procurement to AZ) are communicated effectively and efficiently across AstraZeneca. Alongside this, you will have oversight and accountability for Procurement internal communication channels with alignment to global channels, including Nucleus (AZ intranet) and Workpalce (Social platform).

Cultural awareness and alignment with the AstraZeneca brand and external communications, including digital, external media and investor relations, will be key. An interest in the fast moving space of Global Procurement is a distinct advantage, with Pharma background desirable.

As Associate Director of Procurement Communications, you must be able to gain the trust and respect of executive/key internal stakeholders who will rely on your counsel and guidance on all communications matters. Excellent writing, presentation development, attention to detail, planning, execution and multi-channel communications experience is essential, with a proven track record for delivering innovative and successful communications.

You will be required to demonstrate exemplary personal judgment and confidentiality given the frequent exposure to highly sensitive information and material content. This role will demand strong stakeholder management, relationship building as well as collaborative skills while working as part of a close-knit, high-performing and flexible team.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the Global Procurement communications strategy, annual plan and quarterly performance communications.

  • Lead internal and external communication activities for the Chief Procurement Officer, working with Global Media Team and other key stakeholders as needed.

  • Work with the Procurement Leadership Team (PLT) and in particular the Strategy & Operational Excellence team to develop comprehensive, integrated communication plans to support the delivery of priorities (initially centred around Procurement’s Value Proposition, Five Year Strategy and execution glidepath, evolving this to reflect AstraZeneca’s bold ambition strategy).

  • Provide expertise and input into the development of Global Procurement’s Business Management Review (BRM) narrative.

  • Be an active, contributing member of the Procurement Leadership Team, while building interfaces with other parts of AstraZeneca’s Global Corporate Affairs (GCA) team.

  • Partner with key stakeholders across Global Procurement and the external supplier landscape to drive communications in support of our sustainability strategy and priorities.

  • Lead the development and execution of best practice change communication to advance organisational transformation activities in Global Procurement.

  • Provide communications support and expertise to Global Procurement issues and crisis management teams, and advise and coach senior leaders on events/issues/activities that need to be communicated internally and/or externally.

  • Oversee/lead the planning, development and delivery of flagship Global Procurement events – including all employee webcasts, virtual leader meetings and face to face events.

  • Ensure all communications share a unified look and feel that reflect the company’s business priorities, strategy and brand.

  • Represent Global Corporate Affairs within Global Procurement, influencing development plans and promoting alignment of/adherence to strategies and appropriate governance.

  • Ensure communications are continuous, consistent and distributed through appropriate channels.

  • Measure effectiveness of communication approaches and identify and deliver value-adding solutions to drive improvements.

  • Engage and lead management of contract resources to support effective execution of communication activities as required. Oversee quality and compliance of work.

Knowledge and experience

  • Significant experience of working in a fast-paced global communications team or similar corporate communications environment.

  • Track record of developing and delivering innovative and highly engaging communications to achieve tangible outcomes.

  • Track record of leading and developing high performing communications teams.

  • Extensive experience of employee and leader communications, engagement plans and campaigns, digital and change communications along with event management.

  • Significant experience of managing different stakeholder relationships and confident at forging trusted relationships at a senior level.

  • Experience of managing complex issues/crises with international dimensions.

  • Awareness and understanding of macro technology landscape a distinct advantage.

  • Experience of working in a highly regulated sector.
